DIY: Heart Soap

I got the inspiration for making handmade soaps for little V-day gifts from Martha Stewart's website (bookmarked). Her process was a little daunting at first glance, so I made a quick stop to Michael's to see if I could make it a little easier. I went straight to the soap aisle (no detours, I can get easily distracted in that place!) and found a chunk of soap that I could easily melt. I went at the right time and found heart shaped molds (for cooking) which was exactly what I had in mind!

Cut block of soap into desired chunk (1/3 of block made 6 soaps)
Place in a glass bowl and microwave until soap is melted (about 2 minutes, but keep an eye on it)
Carefully take the soap out of the microwave and add desired scent (I used lavender) and add drops of color (which can be found in the soap aisle)

Stir soap mixture until color is even
Slowly pour into desired mold (I added felt hearts in the middle of each soap for a fun little surprise)
Let sit for 45 minutes
Carefully turn mold over and "pop" them out of place

I made the heart tags with card stock paper, and bought the love bird stamps from Michael's

There's something special about giving a hand-made gift and this little project was so easy! Plus, who doesn't love soap?!
